Striped

(Top: F21, Pants: Marshalls, Shoes: Lilly Pulitzer, Necklace: Charlotte Russe, Earrings: c/o Eden Privee, Ring: TJMaxx, Nails: Essie in Turquoise & Caicos)

I'd like you all to meet Tabby, the cutest little kitten that showed up at my grandparents' door. He's so sweet, and curls up purring away as loud as he possibly can. Adorable.
On another note, this combination has been my uniform as of late..mint, stripes, statement necklaces and a messy bun.
1. We all know I'm obsessed with mint/seafoam..so, pretty pants, meet your new home in my closet.
2. When I found this shirt in Forever21, I knew it was a new wardrobe staple, so it came home in every color..that's what we call effortless outfits, people.

As I've mentioned here before, stripes are so chic and make me daydream of yachting to some beautiful clear watered oasis. Anyone else dreaming of a vacation?

Happy Tuesday!

The Shine Project: Pass It Forward

If you haven't heard of Ashley LeMieux and The Shine Project already, you must be living under a rock. This gorgeous and big-hearted lady has taken over the blog world by storm, and changed many lives in the process. I'm so privileged to be one of the bloggers to help launch her newest project that's been top secret until today! When Ashley shared the details of this incredible project titled, Pass It Forward, I couldn't wait to be involved, and I think you'll feel the same way. So, without further ado, here's the scoop from Ashley herself,

"Pass It Forward was designed to get people to do little things, everyday, that makes an impact on the community around them. Pass it Forward is designed around a card. Each card is given a unique ID number. Lets say we're at McDonalds, and I decide to pay for the person behind me in the drive through. I'd give the cashier the card, and tell them to pass it along to the next car when the give them the food that has been paid for. I then go home and log into the website that was on the card, and find my unique ID number. I log into it, and add my information... My first name, city, and a description of what I did....
Let's say the person behind me was you, you would pass it forward to someone else, and then would go home and do the same thing. From the very beginning, you will be able to track where your card goes, and how many people you affect just by doing one simple act of kindness.

(here's what the back of the card looks like)

I AM SO EXCITED. This project had the potential of working small miracles in the lives of those we pass, and we will then be able to see how far one simple act can go. I want to spread the shine community into something that is in every city, so that we can get more projects done and change more lives... I have strongly felt like this is a big way that will get accomplished."

So, how awesome is that?? I think it will be so cool to track what was done and where the card has gone, creating a chain of kindness all over the country and maybe even the world! I'm totally excited, and cannot wait to get my card to begin the miracle revolution.

You will want to go to Ashley's blog here to get the full run down of where to get the cards, as well as a few more details on the project.

Let's begin to change the world for the better! Shine On!

Happy Friday!

Consistency in Chaos

What a week it has been thus far. To be perfectly honest, it has been rather overwhelming in more ways than just one, and though I don't find it necessary to go into detail, times like this make me think about a few things. First is that God is in control. Beyond all comprehension and perfectly laid plans, his will is perfect, and although hard times come, he is ultimately in control.
That fact alone gives me peace.
The second thing is this,
It is through the testing, trials and perfecting of our faith that we are made into the person he has called us to be. He never promised that the road would be easy, he only promised that he'd never leave or forsake us. That ultimately making it the most worthwhile journey on which we'd ever embark. The thing is, God speaks to us in the most intricate of ways, through details and little things that mean something to us. One of the books I've been reading recently is Uprising by Erwin McManus, and in it he talks about trials and how they bring us close to the full expression of faith. Funny how God knew I'd need these words of wisdom this week.

This quote really got me:

"God allows and at times causes us to go through the kinds of circumstances that strip away all falsehood and leave us with our real selves. God's ultimate intent is not to leave us faithless, but to leave us faith-full. There are few things as exhilarating as going through the fire and finding that you had the resilience to make it through. All of us wonder at times whether we have what it takes. God wants to bring us to a place where we have no doubt of the work He has done within us. "--Erwin McManus, Uprising (p 211)

I am so thankful for multiple friends who, without knowing I was having a less than lovely week, sent me texts, tweets and emails encouraging me, wishing me a wonderful day and lifting my spirits. It is truly such a blessing; thank you for allowing God to use you to be such an encouragement to me.

I know sometimes blogs paint this picture perfect view of a person, but I thought it would be refreshing for both myself and you to see a little transparency and know that life isn't always perfect, but God is, and his strength is our constant..our consistency among chaos.

Spring Trends You Can Wear

With Spring fashion in full bloom, daydreams of florals, sunshine and sandals await.
Here's an easy guide to styling the latest trends for the season.

You Can Wear...
Why I Love It: Soft and whimiscal, this soothing hue can carry you away to a seaside destination in the blink of an eye. From polish to purses, you'll be sure to see this shade all over the place. It's a universal color, so you're bound to look absolutely stunning in it!

How To Wear It: Channel the island paradise you're dreaming of by accessorizing in tropical fruit inspired jewelry, add a touch of trendy colorblocking through these fun flats, and a floppy straw hat to keep you looking chic while you shade your face from the sun. This can be thrown over a swimsuit to catch a drink at the juice bar, or styled for an afternoon of window shopping along the boardwalk.
Why I Love It: Adored by the French and sailors alike, this closet staple is ready to show it's nautical colors once again. What's great about stripes is their ability to be dressed up, or thrown on with a favorite pair of worn in jeans and your trusty cardigan.

How To Wear It: Classic elements in the same color palate dress up the top without saying that you're trying too hard. Compliment your grey blue hues with some skinny colored denim in an oceanic shade, and add a royal blue bag. Anchor the outfit with a neutral shoe in a smooth camel suede, and add a touch of whimsy with glittering emerald earrings. For your makeup, mimic a flush from a day at sea with a sweep of rose colored blush on the apples of your cheeks, and a dab of colored gloss on your lips. Tres chic, no?

Why I Love It: Inspired by the blooming beauties all around, these pants are not for the faint of heart; however, you'll be sure to make a unexpected and elegant entrance. Time to say hello to compliments!

How To Wear It: In order to not overwhelm your frame, pair the pants with a soft, flowing shape on top in a light hue to continue the overall elegant feel; I chose a mint shade to brighten things up a bit! When it comes to shoes, replace your dainty flats for this dramatically glam take on t-strap pumps to toughen up the sweet florals. Accessorize with a structured bag in lemon yellow and neutrals that shows you mean business...can be fun! Don't forget to throw on a few chunky pieces of jewelry in golden tones and sapphire stones to punch up the color combo. You're ready for a working lunch, or a cupcake run with the girls.

Don't you just love the trends of the season? Which is your favorite?

Happy Monday!

P.S. I'm doing a fun post over here today, so come by and say hello! Oh, and did I mention
there's a 1 minute Chocolate cake recipe there too? Exactly. You won't want to miss it.

Back to the Beginning

I remember when I first started blogging, and had no idea as to what direction it would go, so to see my blog now, it's just awesome to look back on the journey, seeing the changes and refinement that it's gone through. (Read my very first blog post here)

Life is like that also; we go through things and are faced with different situations that may test and try us, so when we look back later we see how much we have grown and learned from those challenges.

1 Peter 1:7 says this, "These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold--though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world."

Maybe you're in a situation at the moment where you're unsure of how to continue, or you think you've reached the end, I encourage you to press on, realize that you are being refined, polished like a diamond so you can sparkle and shine like the jewel that you are. Don't give up, for you have so much to give the world.
