As a fashion enthusiast, I'm always looking to see how I can incorporate the latest trends into my outfits while still remaining true to my own personal style. Ariel has a similar take on fashion and always looks absolutely adorable in all of her fashion posts. Today she's chatting about the latest and very wearable trend in skirts & dresses! Enjoy! -C

Hey, I’m Ariel over at On A Whim! I am so excited to be guest posting on Candice’s adorable blog today. She always puts together the cutest outfits and I love reading her weekly fashion posts.

With that in mind,

Let’s talk fashion. The Hi-Low trend in particular.

I’ve never been a huge fan of this trend. It’s kind of like a dress with a beaver tail on it. In the Victorian era, the dress was actually nicknamed the “fishtail”.

However, since the trend first became popular, it has definitely grown on me. It adds so much dimension to an outfit and creates a look that is right in between casual and formal.

Here is one that I found at one of my favorite thrift stores. It has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I chose to pair it with a solid black sweater to make the look a little more casual but easy to remove for a more elegant look.

Thanks so much for having me Candice! Again, I love hearing your fashion tips and had so much fun sharing a few of mine!

Will you rock a hi-low skirt?

After keeping up with all of the fun textures, prints and colors strutting down the runway at New York Fashion Week, and getting some emails asking for some how-to tips for simple and effortlessly chic outfits, I put together a mini series to share with you. Starting next week, we'll dive into the tips & tricks of simple and chic style.

We'll cover all types of topics like creating on trend outfits from things you already own, how to put together looks for different occasions, ideas for maximizing your wardrobe and the top 5 pieces of clothing you should own. It's going to be a great week, and I'd love for you to participate as well! If you have a style question, I'd love for you to send it my way, and I'll answer it in a post that will be included in next week's series!

Have a fantastic Monday!

Teatime Thursday: Code Purple

Fact: There are more than 225 million cases of Malaria reported each year worldwide.
This life-threatening disease is caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through bites of infected mosquitoes.

ING Activewear created MOSKEETO ARMOR™, a fabric that is mosquito repellent and has the potential to save millions of lives around the world.

ING and Touch the World (TTW) have teamed up with top fashion designers, and will launch this product internationally through the Code Purple Event as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC on February 16th. This life changing technology has initiated an international campaign against Malaria, and has already begun to be distributed to people in Africa in the form of these stylish sweatshirts.

Pretty amazing, right? How can you get involved?

Wear Your Support:
If you can’t make it to the NYC event, you can show support by picking up your hoodie at www.INGactivewear.com or make a donation at www.codepurpleevent.com.
For every hoodie purchased through ING Activewear’s website, ING Activewear will contribute by donating another hoodie to be sent to Africa to better someone’s life.

Spread the Word:
Get more information about Code Purple through their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter

If you retweet my original tweet about Code Purple here, you'll be entered to win a surprise swag bag.

What a great way to improve someone else's life, and add a stylish new addition to your closet! That bright purple is perfect for color blocking, a huge spring trend this year.

Let's change the world, one bit at a time!

Of Sunset and Sequins

(Top: Five&Six, Skirt: c/o ShopKempt, Shoes: Pour La Victoire-via giveaway, Necklace: F21,
Bracelet: Dillard's, Ring: Lucky)

Hope you are all enjoying the Fashion Week posts! I love this outfit for multiple reasons, the first being it's comfort factor, and the second being the beautiful colors. Bronze, blush and cranberry are lovely for a smooth transition from fall to winter, and the menswear inspired pumps are the perfect contrast to a rosey statement necklace. Sequins are at the top of my must-have list, so this one from ShopKempt fit the bill perfectly! The evening light was lovely, and captured the gorgeous shades of blush and bronze in both the sunset and sequins.

 Will you wear sequins?
Happy Weekend!

Trend to Try: Color Blocking

Today my stylish sister, Lauren, is here to show you how to wear the latest trends in fall style.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Dress: F21, Tights: Hue, Belt, Bracelet & Clutch: Thrifted, Shoes: Nina, Earrings: Paper Doll)
Color blocking is extremely popular this fall and so are vibrant hues. The shades of pumpkin and plum are very stylish and playful. For an easy way to experiment with color blocking, try pairing a solid dress with colored tights; it's best to choose one vibrant shade and one deeper color to get a nice contrast. Accessorize with classics like gold or silver and you're good to go!

Will you try color blocking?

Love That: Capes

(Cape:Loft, Jeans: F21, Shoes: Pour La Victoire, Bangles: LaurenElizabeth, Clutch: Thrifted)

Capes are making a comeback in a huge way this season, and happen to be flattering on all body types!
This ladylike and warm silhouette adds instant polish to your wardrobe, and depending on the fabric, can be worn to the office or to brunch on the weekend. Petite women should choose a cropped version, to elongate legs, while taller women can wear a more voluminous shape. Pear-shaped girls should try belting their cape to accentuate their figure, and curvy girls should look for a streamlined cut.

Simple, elegant and polished.
Are you loving capes?
