It's A Celebration!

Happy Birthday to my beautiful sister!
You're so talented, sweet and a wonderful example to all who know you.
Here's to a year full of fun, blessings and new adventures!
I love you, Lauren!

Weekend Wanderings

I cannot tell you how happy I am to welcome a weekend that is totally 100% free of school work. Upon finishing my exams last weekend and staring at a computer screen writing papers for three straight days I was in dire need of a change of pace and scenery. A quick trip to the beach for a sunset was the perfect remedy and a sight for sore eyes. This weekend I plan on totally relaxing, not writing a single sentence, celebrating my beautiful sister's birthday, attending a ballet and enjoying the sweet sunshine! Anyone else with me??

By the way, if you haven't snagged your sponsor spot yet, I'm running a little special for April! All large spaces are only $3 and small spots are on a swap basis..send me an email if you'd like to grab one while they're still available!
Happy Weekend!

P.S. I'm Mode Republic's latest cover girl..take a look

On Humility

I've been learning about humility lately. It's not the easiest of lessons to learn, and the classroom is full of interesting experiences; however, I feel as though it is truly one of the most valuable things to understand. Our world seems to fuel success with pride. Those who are boastful and looking to profit themselves are often the ones placed on a pedestal, yet the higher we place ourselves, the farther and harder the fall. In actuality, humility is one of the greatest attributes of success.

Greed profits for only a short time, yet a humble attitude can accomplish greatness. God calls us to much more than a schedule revolving around self; he wants us to become servants, for through that willingness to be the least, he can do the greatest. A servant's heart is the most beautiful kind, and something I strive to attain each and every day. I have to remind myself constantly that my life is not my own, each moment is a gift and should be treasured and used to make a difference in this world.

Proverbs 16:3 calls us to, "Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."

That is the answer to true success, giving up one's own agenda for one that is far exceeding our wildest dreams. Be willing to stay humble and to relinquish will bring freedom, blessings and a love for life like no other.

Happy Thursday!

Block Party

(Top: Loft, Pants: Thrifted, Shoes: Vince Camuto, Sunglasses: Vintage YSL, Necklace: Kate Spade-inspired DIY, Bangles: F21, Ring: Etsy)

Color blocking is such a fun reminds me of being in kindergarten and coloring things in one solid shade. A whole page of blue next to a full page of green. Oh there's a beach scene drawn on the page? No matter, it's all purple today..everything was bright and bold. Sometimes I think simple is best when it comes to outfits. Just find some colors that make you happy and put them together...that's what we used to do as little kids, perhaps there's something to it.

Happy Monday!

Weekend Wanderings

As soon as this weekend is over, I'll be finished with exams! yay! I'm excited to see this final year of school winding down to a close, and a whole new chapter of life beginning. It will be time for some celebration, well-deserved fun and relaxation. The weather has been absolutely wonderful, so there's definitely going to be some beach and pool time in there also!

So Why Do You Blog?

I am so happy to welcome another fabulous blog friend of mine to be here with you guys! Jenny is a total sweetheart...can't wait for you all to meet her too! Be sure to stop by her blog and say hello! Thanks for being here, girl! xoxo
Hello, lovely readers of Teatime Thoughts! I am excited to be here on Candice’s blog today.  My name is Jenny and I am the author of Jeneric Generation, where I attempt to write about my Y-generation tendencies in a way that is honest and frank. I love reading Teatime Thoughts, and think Candice has great style, but most importantly, I love how she uses clothing and color to reflect her personality. That is truly “personal style”, is it not?

So, a little about me and why I blog…

This is a picture of me in a graveyard on my honeymoon a few months ago. It was the best picture I could find to set the mood for a light-hearted discussion on blogging. Just kidding. But did you know that an appreciation of irony is a key part of being in Generation Y? I am so serious about that.

Last October, I married a guy who is not even in my generation. Isn’t that crazy? When we first started dating, some of our discussions caused me to question a few pre-conceived notions I had about the world--simply because we grew up 8 years apart.

Despite my blog name, I am not completely absorbed in analyzing Generation Y. That would wear me out completely. I get tired just thinking about that, actually. I want to stress that I have always been skeptical of labels…I used to call myself a perfectionist until I realized that was more of a mental trap than anything else. Hi, I’m Jenny and sometimes I go crazy if things are not perfect. But nothing in this world is perfect, so this is me telling you all that I am going to just relax.

But occasionally, I do like to focus on the fact that I am part of Generation Y. Not to close myself in, but rather, because it is a good place to start asking questions--and I find knowing the why to be very therapeutic.

Like most other bloggers, I strive to always be honest and to write what I know and what I feel with the full knowledge that I might look back and laugh at myself one day.  But most importantly, I write to confront myself, always. And I love it when other people tell me they can relate to what is most consuming my thoughts at the time. None of us are as original as we imagine ourselves to be, and I for one find that to be so refreshing.

In summary, my primary goal for blogging is a little selfish: I wish to poke fun at myself in the hopes of sorting out thoughts that could be ensnaring me without my knowledge.  I love discussion and long for clarity in my thinking, and articulation in expressing my thoughts.

So here I raise a glass (or tea cup?) to honesty and candor, and hope that we can all learn a little bit more about the commonalities that make us human. If you care to stop by for a visit, I would be more than happy to meet you.

Thanks again, Candice, for letting me take up a portion of your cozy little blog. Teatime Readers, it’s been a real pleasure.
