Summer Sweaters

(Sweater: Gap, Shorts: Lilly Pulitzer, Necklace: Target, Sandals (on major sale right now!): Lilly Pulitzer)

The thought of summer sweaters seems to be somewhat of an oxymoron, but I have to admit that there's actually something to them. Lately I'm all about a comfy, open-knit sweater. They're the perfect piece to transition from the super hot afternoons into the breezy evenings, and whether you pair them with sweet scalloped shorts or white denim, toss them over a swimsuit after a dip in the ocean, or even slip it over a solid color maxi dress, you'll always look perfectly chic. This one I found from Gap is on major sale right now, and I think you'll love the effortlessly cool look for those long summer days. Also, can we talk about how much I still love the lace-up sandal trend? Whether you're in shorts, a dress, or even cropped denim, there's something so stylish about these shoes that pulls together any look. I've worn my gold ones so much this summer, and am looking forward to the lace-up flats that seem to be the next big thing come this fall. On another note, did you make a summer reading list? I always enjoy catching up on a bunch of books I've been wanting to read. I spent the past weekend doing some reading, and am always looking for good book recommendations! There's nothing like finding a new favorite! Have any suggestions?

Wishful Thinking

(Boots: c/o Online Shoes, Top: J.Crew, Sweater: Lilly Pulitzer, Skirt: Ralph Lauren)

So I dressed up like it's fall...maybe it's wishful thinking, since it's pretty much an endless summer here, but it was so fun to slip on a sweater and boots. A short while ago, Online Shoes contacted me about participating in a monthly shoe styling contest that they host...it sounded like a fun challenge, and I couldn't wait to put a fun look together for these boots. When I received this pair of women's boots, I was immediately reminded of all the fun times I went hiking in the Rocky Mountains with my family...we had such fun trying new trails and discovering the beautiful vistas of lookouts surrounding the deep blue lakes. After a day full of adventure, we'd often recline by the big fireplace in the resort, cozied up with a cup of tea or hot chocolate and recount the day's memories! A sturdy and comfortable pair of boots is absolutely essential for wherever you go this season, whether it's the trails, apple picking, or just running errands, and I have to say that I'm really impressed by the Merrill Haven Autumn pair!

As a part of the styling contest, I'm participating with a few other stylish bloggers, and would so love it if you'd vote for my look, pretty please!! (I'll make you cookies..well, maybe not, but I'd love it if you did vote!) Here's the benefit for you, each time you vote, you'll be entered to win a pair of  Merrill's Shoes yourself! It's a total win-win for both of us ;) You can vote everyday if you'd like...hey, more chances for you to win a pair, just saying! Voting ends November 1st

P.S. Do you have a favorite pair of shoes that brings back memories for you?

What To Wear: New Year's Eve

With the beginnings of a New Year just around the corner, it's time to be thinking of what to wear to celebrate! Sequins, glitter, feathers and bright colors..nothing is out of the question; be bold and daring, this is the time to sparkle and shine. Here's a few fun ideas for however you're spending the evening.

Soiree Sparkle
Black satin and feathers are party perfect when accented with sparkling gold accessories. Add a gilded touch to your makeup with shades of honey, glittering gold and a pair of fluttery lashes.
Nothing says celebrate quite like glitter, and sequins are always appropriate at a NYE fete. A sparkling little black dress is a fun twist on a classic. Pair with some nude heels and statement earrings for a pop of color.
Feeling bold? A punchy hue, like this bright pink, is a great way to make an entrance. Faux fur, patterned tights and charcoal suede heels are the perfect compliments! Add a stack of bangles for extra flair.

Cozy Evening In
Planning a relaxing and understated evening celebration? Cozy up in an oversized sweater and silky scarf in rich, warm shades of goldenrod, caramel, cranberry and wine.  A pair of shimmering earrings keeps things festive.

Dinner & A Show
Catching a quick bite before the performance? This turquoise and gold combination is pretty and dressed up enough to take you from dinner to front row seats. Dazzle with glitzy shoes, accessories and a wow-factor necklace.

Cobalt

What a weekend..it's been jam packed with fun things everyday, all day long...I was so proud of my sister as I watched all of her hard work and training pay off in a stunning performance of the Nutcracker ballet. After being in countless productions of it myself, it was a lovely thing to enjoy from the audience also!
These shades of cobalt and navy are cool and soothing after a busy last few days..it reminds me to breathe, enjoy and soak in the beauty of this season, and the little moments of life. With more projects on the horizon, it's bound to be a delightful week.

Happy Monday!
