Merriest of Wishes

Hooray! It's one of the merriest weeks of the year! Wishing you and yours the most wonderful, fun, and joy-filled Christmas celebration! Among the presents, hot chocolate, twinkling lights, and parties with family and friends, may we never forget the reason we're celebrating this beautiful time of the year.

"That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.  Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger.  After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.  All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them."
Luke 2:8-20

Wishing you the merriest Christmas, and best wishes for a fabulous new year ahead!

Shades of Green

(Top: Old Navy, Shorts: Lilly Pulitzer, Sunglasses: GlassesShop c/o
Shoes: Zara, Hat: purchased in the Caribbean)

How was your long weekend? Hope it was fantastic! It sure was nice to take a day off from the crazy amounts of work I've had recently and just escape to the beach for the afternoon. Summer has always been my favorite season, and while everyone toward the north prepares for Fall, I'm kind of glad that the cooler temps won't be stopping by here until about mid-October (if we're lucky). One of the ways that I like to transition into Fall is through fashion, and while jackets and sweaters sound nice, it's just not practical yet, so I like to use accessories to make the style switch. Emerald has been picked as a hot shade for the new season, and these gorgeous gold-rimmed sunglasses, in a brilliant shade of green, are the best way to incorporate a hint of it into my wardrobe. There's something about mirrored frames that makes you look chic and put together, even if you were running late ;) Oh, and did I mention they're only $20?! (Seriously, I know. You'd never guess it by looking at them) Come grab a pair...trust me, you'll love them!

Tropical Paradise: A Photo Diary

Recently I took a little trip to an island paradise, and wanted to share a few of those tropical memories with you! We enjoyed time walking the beaches, swimming in the infinity pools, sailing in the mornings, savoring the fresh catch at lunch, and the beautiful crystal- clear water of the islands. It is such an oasis to be in the middle of the ocean with the trade winds blowing, the palm trees swaying, and the kindness of island hospitality to soak up along with the sunshine. It was hard to leave and return to reality, but I arrived home feeling refreshed and relaxed. Here's a bit of a photo diary of the trip; take a little escape with me...

La Vie Boheme

Oh how I just adore summer! It’s full of easy days spent soaking up the sun, enjoying time with good friends, pool parties, vacation, and sun-kissed skin. One of my favorite things to do during this time of year is to grab some friends and host a dinner party al fresco. I think the best place for a beach bash is anywhere with a view of the water, or right on the beach if you can! While a pretty dinner party may sound complicated, this bohemian-inspired, summer soiree is very simple to put together, leaving you plenty of time to soak up the last rays of sun as you watch the sunset. Here’s your go-to handbook for hosting your own summer party!

Decorate: I love the idea of playing with color and infusing a little free-spirited, boho feel to the decor of a beach bash, so inspired by the two, I chose a color palate in shades of green, cobalt, and aqua. Instead of a traditional place setting, things got a beachy, island vibe with some woven place mats and dark wicker drink holders, and I swapped out a tablecloth for a beach blanket. When you’re going to the beach, it’s best to keep things simple and multi-purpose so you don’t have to lug a lot of things out there, so I used the fresh fruit as part of the “table decor” as well as for snacking, and interspersed a few small lanterns in soft creme to give a little light as the sun set. Individual bowls at each guest’s spot made for easy serving and guests could choose from a buffet of different finger foods, perfect for a lazy afternoon that turns into evening on the beach. Remember to bring along a small garbage bag for easy and fuss-free clean up afterwards!

Dress: Beach parties are the perfect excuse to bring out the breezy, bohemian style, and it’s such fun for your guests to participate in dressing the part! Colorful bathing suits, maxi dresses, layered up jewels, long earrings, and flowing tops paired with shorts make for comfortable and free-spirited ensembles. Summer is also a great time to try out new braided hairstyles and to rock loose, mermaid waves. For a simple DIY beach-inspired ‘do, combine a bit of sea salt with some water and spritz on semi-damp hair. Let your hair dry naturally and then touch up any ends or pieces with a curling wand. Voila!, Mermaid hair achieved.

Eat: When things heat up, the last thing you want is a heavy meal, or things that could melt in the sun. Choose your menu according to the time of day that you’re hosting your party, and always check with your guests to ensure that any special dietary needs are accounted for. Since this was an afternoon of fun by the sea, I decided that an array of different snack foods was best, accompanied by a flavorful quinoa salad. Check with your local grocery store and pick up some of the fresh fruits in season to ensure the best and sweetest taste! Strawberries, orange slices and large juicy wedges of watermelon all looked delicious and were perfect for the warm afternoon! In addition to the fruit, some delicate and crispy coconut cookies were a delightful, tropical compliment. Hydration is key in the soaring temperatures, and guests were greeted with a cold, sparkling water in flavors like Pink Grapefruit and Blueberry Lemon. I always enjoy serving fun, fizzy drinks like a sparkling flavored water or lemonade as a peppy addition to the menu! My local gourmet market had created this delicious and colorful quinoa salad, so for convenience sake, I chose to pick some up on the way to the beach, but if you’d like to create your own, it’s easy and fun to experiment with adding some freshly chopped veggies and dried fruits to your quinoa for added flavor.

As the late afternoon light slowly fades to evening’s glow and sparkles upon the water, enjoy the laughter, mingling conversation, and don’t forget to play in the waves a little! Enjoy summer’s easy, peaceful days, the company of good friends, the sound of the sea, and celebrate this beautiful season! Cheers!

Style Sessions: How To Style Print

Today we're talking all about print! Many people shy away from prints because of their loud and often busy nature, but in the right placement & color story, prints can be very flattering, fun & statement making in just the right way! Here's a few go-to tips for styling prints:

1. If you're just testing the waters of printed pieces, choose your favorite color as a starting point, and pair your print with a solid: printed shorts with solid top, or printed top with solid colored pants/skirt etc.

2. When print mixing, try to stay within the same color story, and choose things that are complimentary such as stripes & florals or polka dots and stripes. Always anchor your look with a solid colored or even neutral shoe...too much print can look like you got dressed in the dark, yikes!

3. Don't be afraid to experiment! See a pattern you love? Give it a try, and more often than not, I think you'll be surprised at how much you can pull off! Prints are a great way to let your clothing do the talking!

When styling this look, I immediately fell in love with the beautiful blues & greens in this scarf-inspired print, and knew it would be the perfect piece to create a look with. Upon first glance, visions of jungle exploration and tropical escapes filled my mind, and I decided to style it inspired by the thought of a quick jet-set to a nearby island. All I need are a few hours on the beach, a great pair of oversized dark glasses and suddenly vacation is calling my name...ready for a weekend away?? Sign me up! Packing print is the most fabulous way to travel. To dress this up for a dinner reservation, I'd pair it with slim cut, navy ankle pants, or a wide-leg white trouser. Pull your hair up to show off the link detail of the top, and throw on some gold wedges. Meet you at 6!
