Mermaid Life

As an avid ocean-enthusiast and mermaid at heart, I fell in love with this darling tank
from the fabulous SS x Eluxe collection While I've enjoyed it through the summer weather, it's not something I want to stash away upon fall's arrival, so I decided to style it for the transitional temperatures. A colorful cardigan and black skinnies take the tank from beachy to polished, and I paired it with some jewelry in ocean-colored hues as well as a buttery, caramel-colored bag to finish the look. For those of us who live in an endless summer, this is a great way to transition those well-loved, warm weather pieces into cool, fresh looks for fall. How do you wear your summer staples into autumn?

Ocean Blues

(Dress: Lilly Pulitzer, Bangles: Bourbon & Boweties, Earrings: Anna & Ava)

A little while ago, I got to spend the most lovely of afternoons with a dear friend of mine! Jennifer Blair is truly a delight, both inside and out, and her photography is absolutely beautiful! Her ability to capture and create such ethereal and magical images is so inspiring. We decided to explore the grounds of a former winter home belonging to a wealthy couple from the 1920's, and although the clouds may have been out that day, it was nonetheless lovely! I could imagine what elaborate events they must have hosted upon the patio, to the backdrop of the sea kissing the shoreline. We played with the concept of sea-colored hues, inspired by the thought of ocean maidens and sparkling waves. This dress was just the right combination of color and movement..perfect for a sea soiree!

How To Wear: Summer Denim

I wore an outfit like this the other day, and it perfectly pulls together the classic style and the trends of summer. When I purchased my printed denim shirt (mine has a faint paisley pattern) I wanted to make sure that I didn't have too much of a rodeo feel when I wore it, so instead I went for a more classic and preppy look. Pairing it with a closet staple, navy shorts, and accenting it with a colorful statement necklace seemed to be the perfect option. Tucking it in with a gold belt (a favorite as of late!) adds a nice, clean finishing touch along with a little extra sparkle on the sandals and jewel stud earrings. I finished off the outfit with another favorite, my envelope clutch with zipper edging in cobalt blue. Hope this inspires you to create some fun summer outfits! This look can also be created with a regular chambray shirt or even a fun button down!

One of my goals for the new year is to be more experimental with my fashion choices. While I'm not always "matchy matchy" or constantly in head to toe print, I do have pieces to which I tend to gravitate towards more frequently than others. To break myself of that habit, I'm remixing and rethinking some of the pieces to create new looks. I can't remember the last time I wore this..well actually, any button up for that matter, and this pretty one in a sky blue shade was perfect for a day on the water and some city exploration. Comfortable and classic, it's easy to wear, and will be a style chameleon piece I can seamlessly mix into a couple different outfits later. Shopping in your own closet really does pay off, who knew? :)

Cobalt

What a weekend..it's been jam packed with fun things everyday, all day long...I was so proud of my sister as I watched all of her hard work and training pay off in a stunning performance of the Nutcracker ballet. After being in countless productions of it myself, it was a lovely thing to enjoy from the audience also!
These shades of cobalt and navy are cool and soothing after a busy last few days..it reminds me to breathe, enjoy and soak in the beauty of this season, and the little moments of life. With more projects on the horizon, it's bound to be a delightful week.

Happy Monday!

Shades of Blue

(Dress: F21, Shoes: Zara, Belt: F21, Clutch: Thrifted, Sunglasses: Michael Kors)

I've always been drawn to shades of blue. Perhaps it is my innate love for all things in that natural hue..the sky and the ocean. It's soothing and peaceful, bringing a sense of calm and a freshness. Isn't it intriguing to think about the emotions and feelings a certain color can evoke? Often a particular shade is an expression of how we feel or a mood of sorts.

Every time I've worn blue, it remains a calming, comforting and refreshing color..reminding me of the ever-present beauty found in the sky and the sea, both large in their expanse and grand as can be. Have you ever thought about color, and why certain thoughts and memories are sometimes attached?

Kahlil Gibran once said, "In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans."
There's something so soothing and mysterious about the ocean; the colors and textures beautifully melding sea and sand to create a consistent yet watery chaos. It's no wonder that we find ourselves there to think, dream and play.

Thinking about summertime's swift arrival has my mind out to sea..daydreams of sunshine, crystal blue water, starfish, seashells, and not a care in the world. My wardrobe has suddenly found itself in shades of sea, adorned in nautical and ocean-inspired motifs.

Perhaps its the frequent trips to the shoreline to catch the sun's brilliant departure as it leaves the world in a blaze of color, or maybe the sudden spike in temperatures that has me thinking about making everyday a beach day...regardless, I'm planning on being near the water as. much. as. possible. this summer. Mermaids, I just might come join you.
